型染という伝統的な手仕事の温かさと素朴さに魅せられて布を染めています。型紙を使って布を染める方法は、自分の考えを直接的に表現することが難しく、また制約があるところが魅力の一つです。その制約の中で生まれる模様と白生地とが、うまく融合すると心地よく大らかな布が生まれます。布一枚によって空間のイメージがガラリと変わり、その場がパッと明るくなったり、見る人に元気を与えたり… 。私は、そんな布を制作することを目指しています。

I practise stencil dyeing because I am fascinated by the warmness of the traditional handiwork and its simplicity. Using stencil papers to apply dyes onto fabrics makes it harder for me to express my ideas directly, and having such restraint is another attraction which the method possesses. Within the restriction the patterns are born, and when they merge successfully with the white fabric, together they create pleasing and magnanimous cloth. One cloth can alter the surrounding atmosphere dramatically; it can illuminate the space, or invigorate the viewers… Creating such cloths is my aspiration.
