熊本県の海と山に囲まれた小さな町で育った私は、子供の頃、鳥を飼っていた。鳥といっても半端な鳥ではなく梟（フクロウ）、鳶（トビ）、こじゅけい、ひよ等たくさん飼った。鳶などは、足にロープをつけて運動に飛ばしていた。よくかまれてケガをした。梟は、いつか呼べば飛んでくる位、慣れていたが、池でおぼれて死んだ。鳥の捕らえかたもたくさん知っていた。
今でも、作品として鳥を追っていて、イメージを限定されつづけている。昔に飼っていた鳥たちに、捕獲されている様に・・・。

The little town I spent my childhood was in Kumamoto-ken, placedbetween the sea and the mountains, and as a child I used to keep manybirds. Not so ordinary birds, such as an owl, a kite, a partridge, chicks andmany others. I used to tie a string to the kite and let it fly and play. I gotbitten a lot, and ended up with many scars. The owl was tame, it evenresponded to its own name, but then one day it drowned in a pond. I knewmany ways to capture birds.
I am still trying to capture them in my canvas, as if I have no freedom as towhat to draw on my canvas.Just as if the birds from the past captured my mind…
