ニューヨークで暮らしていると、実に多様な文化、及び多文化的なコミュニティの存在を、絶えず肌で感じさせられる。そのような暮らしの中で私が興味を抱くのは、カソリック教の宗教的熟考から成る瞑想を、仏教の禅に於ける精神修養へと「翻訳」する事により、異文化間の芸術的な「対話」を成立させる事である。
主たる私の表現手段は絵だ。卵テンペラ塗料と油、という中世からルネッサンスに用いられた技法を選ぶ事によって、私は当時のヨーロッパの宗教芸術を引用する。また、先の技法を用いつつモノクロに表す事によって、墨梅をその様式の一つに持つ十二世紀に中国で確立された禅画を引用する。更に、ミニマルアートの基調である幾何学的な「表現語彙」を加え、これ等三つの異なる様式に、共に「発言」させる。これが、西洋・東洋の両伝統における聖礼概念、絵画を通した文化相互間の「瞑想言語」の制作である。

Living in New York City I am constantly exposed to cultural diversity and multicultural communities. I am interested in establishing an artistic dialog between distant cultures through translating meditative experience of religious contemplation of Catholicism to spiritual exercise of Zen Buddhism.
My primary medium is painting. By choosing an egg tempera paint and oil, which were the mediums of Middle Ages and Renaissance, I make reference to sacral art of the period in Europe. By using that technique in monochromatic manner I refer to Asian ink plum painting, the genre of Zen Art established in 12-century China. By taking upon vocabulary of geometric motifs of minimal art I bring these three forms of utterance together to create cross cultural meditative pictorial language, a concept of sacral in Western and Eastern tradition.
